Thursday, 13 July 2006 saw the official opening of Western Australia’s third St John of God Foundation Horizon House in the regional area of Geraldton by patron His Excellency the Governor of Western Australia, Dr Ken Michael, AC.

Our close association with the Department of Housing and Homeswest has continued to strengthen and in early 2005 the Department approved a submission from the Foundation to develop our project in the regional city of Geraldton.

Bendat House Geraldton symbolised the St John of God Foundation’s first opportunity to expand into a regional setting where trends are indicating that youth homelessness is on the increase.

Lotterywest also continued to show their support for the Horizon House project through providing us with an Equipment and Furniture Grant to fit out the interior of the house including white goods, furniture, crockery etc. We were also very fortunate to have the local support of Batavia Furniture and Mitchell & Brown who made the fit-out so much easier.
Special guests at the Official Opening included included Mr and Mrs Bendat and their families; Sister Isobel Moran, Provincial Leader of the Sisters of St John of God; Professor Michael Quinlan, St John of God Foundation Chairman; Geraldton Bishop, Justin Bianchini who blessed the project; Josephine Casserly, St John of God Foundation CEO and Hon Mike Board, Horizon House General Manager.
