Bendat House, Bunbury Print E-mail

On Thursday, 22 February 2007 Western Australia’s fourth St John of God Foundation Horizon House in the regional area of Bunbury was officially opened by the Honourable Michelle Roberts MLA; Minister for Housing and Works.

Special guests present at the opening ceremony included: Hon Michelle Roberts MLA, Minister for Housing & Works, Heritage, Indigenous Affairs; Land Information; Mr Jack & Mrs Eleanor Bendat; Mayor David Smith; Sister Isobel Moran, Province Leader, Sisters of St John of God; Mr Mark Grimes CEO, St John of God Hospital, Bunbury; Mr Ian Jones, General Manager GWN and Ms Marianne Harris, Representative of Lotterywest.

The Department of Housing and Works very generously donated the land and house package for this project. Once the building was complete we were extremely fortunate to secure a grant from Lotterywest to out fit the home & landscape the gardens. This support from Lotterywest along with the generosity of Retravision Bunbury has allowed the St John of God Foundation to create a family style home that is a true model of care.

Bendat House Bunbury is Western Australia’s second regional Horizon House which services the massive South West region. Homeless youth who would normally move to the city to find accommodation and work can now look to the Horizon House project for local support and care, allowing their eventual reintegration to the South West community.
